Hey there, data junkies! Let's talk about data dashboards - those super cool tools we use to track and analyze all kinds of important metrics and data points. I mean, who doesn't love a good dashboard, right?
At my job, I'm basically a dashboard-making machine. And let me tell you, there are a few golden rules I always try to follow when creating these bad boys.
First and foremost - always remember who's gonna be using the dashboard.
Like, your typical user probably isn't gonna be a data analyst or anything fancy like that. We're talking startup CEOs, product managers, HR folks - people who need to see the data, but don't necessarily wanna get bogged down in all the nitty-gritty details.
Another rule of thumb - more white space!
I mean, let's face it, dashboards can get pretty overwhelming with all the numbers, texts, shapes, and colors flying around. Adding some white space helps the user focus on the important stuff and makes it easier to chunk related info together.
And finally, less is more.
Don't go crazy adding a bunch of elements that don't really add anything to the data or make it harder to read. Keep it simple, stupid!
Anyway, enough talk - let me show you what I mean. Below is a snapshot of an interactive dashboard I made in Tableau. Trust me, it's pretty sweet.
